Underpinning the mineral profile of HYGAIN® TIE-BREAKER® is the balance of nutrients shown to counteract oxidant damage and favourably influence energy metabolism, including:

  • Chromium - to reduce stress and lower lactic acid production
  • Magnesium - to balance calcium and assist muscle relaxation
  • Phosphate - a major intra-muscular buffer
  • MCT oils - to provide instant back-up energy
  • Ginkolides, Flavinoids and essential oils from Ginko Bilboa
  • Vitamin E and Selenium

...The Tying-Up Aid

HYGAIN® TIE-BREAKER® provides the key muscle nutrients to protect contraction-relaxation coupling, strengthen anti-oxidant activity and reduce the risk of tying-up in horses.

  • Supports muscle relaxation pathways
  • Stabilises the anti-oxidant network
  • Regulates energy metabolism
  • Balances calcium : magnesium ratio
  • Provides intra-muscular buffers & back-up fuel supply
Symptom-free episodes of tying-up occur frequently and are a difficult-to-diagnose cause of poor performance.

Tying-Up occurs when the contraction-relaxation cycle in the muscle malfunctions.

The two primary causes of this are
1. an acute energy crisis
2. a build-up of calcium in the muscle cell.

Oxidant damage is a major risk factor, known to trigger disorders in muscle physiology and the contraction-relaxation process.

Although correct training powers-up the anti-oxidant defence systems, during exercise fatigue prolongs the contraction cycle and additional anti-oxidant support is necessary.

Drugs are no alternative for supportive nutrition because:
  • imbalances and deficiencies in essential mineral cofactors, can render vitamin E and selenium inactive
  • just supplementing with vitamin E and selenium doesn't work
  • the correct ratio of calcium to magnesium is essential for optimum muscle function and to protect against muscle disorders.
 DOSAGE
Administer 30ml the night before and 30ml 4 hours prior to fast work, racing or competition. .

IMPORTANT : to maximise the response to HYGAIN® TIE-BREAKER® the following training guidelines have been shown to be important for many horses with tying-up syndrome:
1. SLOW DAYS : Replace trotting and cantering with walking and swimming.
2. FAST DAYS : Warm-up walk only, fast work at 15 seconds per furlong or better every 4 to 5 days.
3. EQUESTRIAN & ENDURANCE HORSES : Commencing the work session with a 800 to 1000 metres strong canter at around 480 metres/min or 28 km/hour has been shown to be important in the management of many horses that tie-up.
