Mounted
police officer, horse hurt in New York traffic accident A
mounted police officer and his horse were hurt when the horse ran into traffic
at a busy Manhattan intersection.
The officer was hospitalized in stable
condition after the accident Monday, police spokesman Michael Levoff said. The
extent of the horse's injuries was not immediately known.
A woman who
lives in a building on the corner where the accident took place said she saw the
horse in a "full gallop'' before running through a red light into oncoming
traffic. Kathleen McCarthy said she saw the officer and horse on the ground.
She said the horse, which was able to get up, had blood coming from its nose.
"It was really scary,'' she said. "I hope they're both OK.''
A taxi driver said the horse struck a vehicle in the lane next to his and
then ran into his taxi. A broken headlight could be seen on the front of the taxi.
Last month, a horse pulling a carriage collided with a car in midtown
Manhattan, critically injuring its driver. The horse had to be euthanized.

Horse
found starving and freezing is doing better A horse found starving
to death in the freezing cold in Clackamas County is doing better now that a veterinary
hospital has taken over her care. 'Miracle,'
a Tennessee Walker Filly, was found lying in a pasture after a sheriff's deputy,
acting on a tip, headed to the location to check out what was going on. The
sheriff's deputy found 50 horses in all, some of them malnourished. Miracle was
in the worst shape and was barely alive. The
horse's owner, Virginia Winter, was taken into custody and charged with one count
of animal neglect. Investigators say she has a history of failing to properly
feed and care for her horses. As
for Miracle, the horse was taken to a veterinary hospital in Oregon City and is
reportedly eating and drinking on her own. With the help of caregivers, she even
stood up for a couple of minutes on Sunday. Click
